Space for ocean freight from China is filling earlier than usual. If your full-container load (FCL) needs to arrive before Christmas or in early January, booking a sailing now can reduce the risk of delays and limited allocation. The following snapshot covers current net/net rate indications from Yantian, Shekou and Shanghai. Rates and space must be reconfirmed once your cargo-ready date is known.

Indicative Rates to Europe

For sailings valid approximately through 31 October, Yantian or Shanghai to Felixstowe is indicated from USD 2,000 per 20-foot container or USD 3,150 per 40-foot high-cube, with an estimated transit of 45 days on MSC direct service. Hamburg from either origin is similarly indicated at USD 2,000 and USD 3,150, with transit around 50–60 days. Yantian to Gdansk is also from USD 2,000 per 20-foot and USD 3,150 per 40-foot high-cube, taking about 50 days on a direct MSC sailing.

Shekou to Barcelona is indicated from USD 2,970 per 20-foot or USD 4,500 per 40-foot high-cube, with an estimated 40-day direct ONE service. Shanghai to Barcelona is from USD 3,275 and USD 4,450 respectively, with transit around 50 days on YML.

Australia and United States Options

From Shekou, estimated transit times are 12 days to Sydney, 18 days to Melbourne and 20 days to Brisbane. YML indications are from USD 2,400 per 20-foot or USD 4,750 per 40-foot high-cube, valid approximately through 22 October. Shanghai to Sydney, Melbourne and Brisbane is estimated at 15, 20 and 22 days respectively. ONE/EMC rates begin at USD 2,350 and USD 4,600, valid approximately through 31 October.

For US-bound cargo with gate-in around 31 October, Shekou to Los Angeles is approximately 18 days, from USD 6,020 per 20-foot or USD 7,060 per 40-foot high-cube; New York takes around 40 days, from USD 6,620 or USD 8,260. From Shanghai, Los Angeles is indicated at USD 5,200 or USD 7,250, while New York is USD 7,300 or USD 8,800. Dallas service via Los Angeles is also available from both origins, with an estimated 35-day transit.

Why Early Booking Matters

Peak-season demand, blank sailings and port congestion can extend transit times and push arrival beyond planned dates. Reserving space two to three weeks before cargo is ready provides more time to secure a suitable sailing ahead of holiday shutdowns. For South China shipments, direct factory coordination and flexible port switching may help manage changing schedules.

Request a Confirmed Option

To check current allocation and obtain a firm rate, provide the loading port, destination, container size and cargo-ready date. Indications are subject to carrier confirmation, available space and applicable destination charges. Rates may change as the shipment date approaches, so confirm both price and sailing before finalizing plans.
